Useful Tips and Bonus FREE Easter Egg Design
The closer it comes to Easter, the more egg and bunny themed embroidery designs we see popping up everywhere. Everybody is busy getting ready for the holidays! Well, we caught the the Easter egg & bunny fever ourselves, and decided to grab the opportunity to demonstrate the great features and tools in Hatch Embroidery Digitizer using this cute Easter egg design.
In this article we give you useful tips on how to avoid some common pitfalls by highlighting important elements of the embroidery digitizing process such as adding a basting stitch, adding special stitch effects and working out your digitizing and stitching order. Adding The Basting Stitch
This design has a lot of fill stitches and also stitches on top of stitches, so you will have to compensate for the fabric pulling. You will need to add a basting stitch that will stitch first and that will be on the outside parameter of the Easter egg. We chose a color for the basting stitch that will not be used anywhere else in the egg design and it will be the first color that will be stitched. We used the rectangle tool to draw the shape and the single stitch type. Watch the video for further explanation on stitch settings.
Embroidery Digitizing Order
In the previous video, we showed you how to add the basting stitch, which is the first step. In this one we show you how to plan out the digitizing order. You need to think about which parts of the egg are going to be the furthest from you, because those are the ones you will need to digitize first. With our egg design you will need to digitize the big background parts first as they will be stitched out first, and the decorative smaller elements after, as they will be stitched on the top. You also need to group your colors together as much as possible to avoid too many thread changes. In the video you will also see how to minimize the number of jump stitches and save yourself a lot of thread clippings.
Florentine Stitch Effect
Florentine stitch will give your stitches a curved look, which will create the 3D effect of the egg. We use the Digitize Closed Shape tool to create the shape and then Object Properties editing feature to select the Florentine Effect that will turn the stitches into a curve.
